Gloucester flyhalf Danny Cipriani has been fined after pleading guilty to assault and resisting arrest after an incident at a Jersey nightclub on Wednesday.

Cipriani was arrested outside the nightclub in the early hours of Wednesday morning, after his team played the Jersey Reds in a pre-season friendly.

He was charged with assault and resisting arrest as well as assaulting police, larceny and being disorderly on licensed premises. However, the latter three charges were dropped.

After pleading guilty, Cipriani was fined £1,500 for resisting arrest, £500 for assault on the club’s doorman and was ordered to pay £250 in compensation for bruising a female officer.

Gloucester’s new signing had only recently returned to the international fold and helped England to a 25-10 victory in the final Test of the June series against the Springboks.
