Chiefs scrumhalf Brad Weber scored a hat-trick to help his side to a 38-26 victory against the Brumbies on the Sunshine Coast.
Both sides named strong starting lineups for this Super Rugby warm-up match, with Sam Cane leading an All Blacks-laden Chiefs outfit, while Christian Lealiifano captained a Brumbies lineup featuring Wallabies Tevita Kuridrani and Henry Speight.
The Brumbies were first on the scoresheet after scrumhalf Joe Powell crossed from the back of a 5m scrum, with Lealiifano adding the conversion.
However, the Chiefs gained the lead as Weber scored a seven-minute hat-trick which, along with a try to flank Mitch Brown, gave the visitors a 26-7 half-time lead.
Both sides made a plethora of changes in the second half as they looked to test the depth of their squads.
Flank Liam Messam scored an early try for the Chiefs, but the Brumbies hit back with tries from No 8 Isi Nasarai and centre Kyle Godwin to tighten the game at 33-26 going into the final minutes.
Centre Johnny Fa’auli then crossed in the corner to seal a Chiefs’ win in the final pre-season game for both sides.
