The Chiefs’ sublime attacking ability enabled them to pile on the punishment against the Reds on Friday, according to SARugbymag.co.za’s Opta-powered stats.

This season, the Chiefs have firmly established themselves as one of the most formidable attacking sides in Super Rugby, scoring 58 tries, recording 170 clean breaks and making 6,298m with ball in hand.

They were widely expected to run the Reds ragged on Friday, and they did just that in a resounding 50-5 victory. They completed 558m to 265, beat 26 defenders to 14 and executed 18 clean breaks to four.

They were also aided by two moments of poor ill-discipline from the Reds, which saw Nick Frisby and Jack Tuttle spend the final 10 minutes of the first half in the sin bin.

The Reds also missed a costly 26 tackles as the Chiefs’ lethal attack proved to be too hot to handle despite the fact the hosts actually enjoyed 60% of possession.
