Former EPRFU president Cheeky Watson’s request to stand trial alone was turned down in court on Monday.
Watson, Andrea Wessels, Nadia Gerwel, Mandisi Mkasa and Stephan Pretorius have all been accused of defrauding the Nelson Mandela Bay Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS) bus service.
According to court papers, close to R3-million was laundered into the bank accounts of Access Management (who were the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium operators), EP Rugby and Zeranza.
Watson, who is only facing two charges, was ready for his case to start while the others wanted more time to prepare, according to The Herald.
The marathon trial is now only expected to begin in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court on 10 December.
