Brumbies lock Sam Carter is relishing the chance to get back on the field after missing out at the 2015 World Cup.

Having recovered from a knee injury, Carter was called up to the Wallabies World Cup squad to replace the injured Will Skelton but failed to make an appearance. He expressed his disappointment, but was happy with the work he had put in to get there.

‘I just made sure I did everything possible to put myself in the best position for selection,’ Carter said. ‘At the end of the day I wasn’t too disappointed that I didn’t get a game, because I knew I had done everything I could. It was tough to not get a run, but at the same time I didn’t leave anything behind.’

The 25-year-old has since become a senior member of the Brumbies side and is ready to fill that role. He is especially looking forward to taking charge of the lineout set piece.

‘We’ve got a lot of guys with a fair bit of experience and I’m becoming one of those people,’ he said. ‘A few guys are looking to step up this year and really make a mark on the team and lead around the park. I’ve been given the lineout duties this year,’ he added. ‘I’m looking to further my game in all aspects, but it’s one [leading the lineout] I want to bring to 2016. We’ve been doing a fair bit of work on it this pre-season and hopefully it comes good in February.’

The Brumbies kick off their Super Rugby season with a home fixture against the Hurricanes on 26 February.
