All Blacks captain Sam Cane has given an injury update after he underwent corrective surgery on his torn right pectoral tendon.
Cane was operated on late last week after sustaining the season-threatening injury while playing for the Chiefs against the Blues back in March.
The Chiefs confirmed shortly after the win Cane had torn his right pectoral tendon and will be sidelined for up to six months.
On social media on Monday, the Chiefs and All Blacks skipper updated fans on his situation alongside a photo of him in a hospital bed.
‘Surgery went well,’ Cane wrote.
‘Grateful to have had a very good surgeon who reattached my pectoral muscle but also tied up a few loose ends with my shoulder while he was in there. Looking forward to starting the rehab process and coming back stronger.’
The 29-year-old jokingly added that he’ll be resting at home watching plenty of TV series.
‘In the short term it’s rest and Netflix. I’m currently on the last season of Homeland and have loved it but will need a new series or two so hit me with your favourites please and thank you!’
Cane will miss the remainder of Super Rugby Aotearoa with the injury as well as at least part of the All Blacks’ upcoming July Tests against Italy and Fiji.
