There are increasing calls from within Australia for the Brumbies and Rebels to enter into a merger.
With the Australian Rugby Union set to begin arbitration proceedings with the Western Force on Monday, it still remains unclear which Aussie side will be cut from Super Rugby next year.
Both the Force and Rebels have steadfastly sought to retain their place in the competition, which has led to the likes of mining magnate Andrew Forrest pledging his support to a plan that is being devised to assist a Brumbies takeover of the Rebels.
Forrest has pledged to do everything in his power to ensure the Force survive, while suggesting that a Brumbies takeover would make the most sense.
Former Wallaibes player John Welborn has also said that the merger would be the next best option if the ARU can't retain five teams.
