Roelof Smit has been ruled out of the remainder of the Bulls’ Super Rugby campaign due to a serious knee injury. 

Bulls team doctor Herman Rossouw confirmed Smit will be out for up to 12 weeks after suffering a ligament tear in his right knee in the game against the Brumbies at Loftus on Saturday.

He will not play Super Rugby again this year, while it is also expected that he will miss the early rounds of the Currie Cup.

No 8 Marco van Staden sustained knee and ankle injuries late in the game and while it was initially feared that his season is over, a scan on Monday confirmed he didn’t suffer any serious damage and should be back in action at the end of June when Super Rugby resumes.

In better news, Hanro Liebenberg, Jannes Kirsten and Ruan Steenkamp have completed their respective injury rehabilitation programmes and started training with the squad again. The trio’s availability for selection is a much-needed boost to the Bulls’ loose-forward stocks ahead of their next game against the Sunwolves on 30 June.
