The Border U17 Sevens team did not take part in the interprovincial tournament in Potchefstroom this past weekend after the union was unable to pay for transport.
According to DispatchLive, the team’s trip was called off at the 11th hour after they could not pay the transporter responsible for taking their 12 players and three coaches to the tournament.
A total of R18,000 was needed to fund the trip, but parents were called to pick their children up from Port Rex High School when the trip was called off a day before the tournament.
The games against Border were therefore not counted toward the overall standings in the tournament.
