Vodacom Bulls flyhalf Marnitz Boshoff suffered a career-threatening injury in training at Loftus last week.
Boshoff has had a series of knee injuries since joining the Bulls from Connacht two years ago and according to Netwerk24, he has suffered yet another setback which could end his playing career.
The 30-year-old is believed to have been busy practicing his goal-kicking when he injured himself.
‘We are very worried that this could be the end of his career,’ coach Pote Human said. ‘I feel sorry for Marnitz, he is a talented player and a good person. But I’m afraid this might be it for him.’
Boshoff has one Test cap for the Springboks.
