Two differing approaches to the fullback role makes for an intriguing battle at Ellis Park on Saturday, writes BRENTON CHELIN.
Marnitz Boshoff's influence at the Golden Lions cannot be understated. His ability to play a more tactical game and goal-kicking prowess will be key to their success, or failure, in the play-offs. Boshoff kicked superbly against the Sharks last weekend, stepping in after young flyhalf Jaco van der Walt missed an early attempt at goal.
Cheetahs fullback Clayton Blommetjies is an entirely different proposition at fullback. An elusive runner with game-breaking abilities, he'll be looking to capitalise on any wayward kicking from the Lions. Both teams have shown their penchant for an expansive, free–flowing approach, which could make for a loose game on Saturday. In such an event, Blommetjies could prove the match-winner.
There is the fear that Boshoff could be marginalised at fullback, which would be to the detriment of the Lions. His superior game-management skills will be required if they're to nullify an unpredictable Cheetahs attack.
In Boshoff, you know what you're getting, and it's that consistency and sound decision-making that makes him the safer bet for the Duel of the Week.
