Kagoshima City will host the Springboks’ pre-tournament holding camp in the lead-up to next year’s World Cup in Japan.
SA Rugby confirmed on Wednesday that the Bok squad will attend a holding camp from 7-12 September, before the team reports for official World Cup duty at their base in Tokyo.
According to the agreement between SA Rugby and the city, the Springboks will stay at the local Sun Royal Hotel, use the nearby Shiranami Stadium for field and gymnasium sessions and will have full access to the Kamoike Dome and swimming pool for the duration of their week-long stay.
Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus says numerous issues were factored in before deciding on Kagoshima City.
‘Apart from the splendid weather conditions during that time, the quality of training and accommodation facilities and – most importantly – the easy and accessible location of all training amenities, makes it a top-class training venue,’ Erasmus explained.
‘All their facilities are first-class and will ensure an excellent environment for the Springboks to complete our pre-tournament preparations.’
