The Springboks remain No 5 in the World Rugby rankings despite their 35-6 win over Italy in Padua.
South Africa didn’t gain any rankings points because the Azzurri are ranked too low (13th).
Australia’s 53-24 thrashing of Scotland came as good news for Ireland, who have replaced the Wallabies in third place. Michael Cheika’s side were docked 1.8 ratings points and are now ranked fourth.
Lower down, France dropped below Argentina to ninth place as a result of their 23-23 draw with Japan.
