Springboks Damian de Allende and RG Snyman sustained ‘substantial burns to their legs, hands and face’ after being involved in a ‘fire-pit accident’ along with other Munster teammates over this past weekend.

According to the latest Munster medical report, De Allende, along with fellow Springbok RG Snyman and club teammates CJ Stander and Mike Haley, required treatment for burns sustained in the accident.

De Allende and Snyman came off the worst of the four players, sustaining ‘more substantial burns to their legs, hands and face’. They are both still expected to link up with the Springbok squad upon the completion of their provincial season.

The duo will not take part in their respective training and injury rehabilitation programmes and will instead consult a specialist later this week.

Snyman is already recovering from a long-term knee injury, while De Allende will not be available for Munster’s PRO14 Rainbow Cup clash with Zebre on Friday evening.

On Saturday, both were named in the Springboks’ 46-man squad for the British & Irish Lions tour.

Stander and Haley, meanwhile, sustained burns to their hands and could be available for training and selection for Friday’s match depending on how they recover.
