George Moala’s try after the hooter gave the Blues a 10-7 win against the Hurricanes in the final of the Brisbane Tens on Saturday.
The Canes opened the scoring with a fifth-minute try to Alex Fidow, which came from a well-worked lineout move. Jackson Garden-Bachop slotted the conversion from out wide, and his side went into the break with a 7-0 lead.
The Blues’ Michael Tamoaeita was yellow-carded for a high tackle three minutes into the second half, but the Hurricanes were unable to add to their tally while he was off the field.
Akira Ioane then scored a try for the Blues with three minutes remaining, and while Jonathan Ruru missed the conversion, it wouldn’t prove costly.
With time up, Moala powered his way through three Canes defenders to score the match-winning try.
Earlier in the day, the Blues had beaten the Reds 22-10 in the semi-finals, while the Hurricanes upset the Crusaders 14-10.
