Auckland’s return to Covid-19 alert level 3 could impact the sold-out scheduled clash at Eden Park between the Blues and Crusaders on Sunday.
The Crusaders won Super Rugby Aotearoa with a round to spare this past weekend, and the competition was set to conclude with the champions facing the second-placed Blues.
However, it was confirmed on Tuesday that Auckland would return to alert level 3 from noon Wednesday until at least midnight Friday after four cases of Covid-19 with no links to overseas travel were discovered.
At alert level 3 the match would not be able to go ahead, while if it dropped to level 2, it would not go ahead with spectators present.
In a tweet on Tuesday, NZ Rugby said it ‘is currently assessing the impact on rugby following the government announcement that Auckland will tomorrow move to Alert Level 3 and the rest of NZ to Alert Level 2.
‘NZR is in close and constant dialogue with government and a further update will be given tomorrow.’
Saturday’s match between the Highlanders and Hurricanes in Dunedin could also be impacted.
