The Springbok Sevens began the defence of their Las Vegas title by beating Portugal 19-0 and Japan 42-5 on day one.
South Africa scored three tries in their first match, through Ryno Benjamin, Seabelo Senatla and Werner Kok.
Senatla crossed the line twice in the game against Japan, with Cecil Afrika, Benjamin, Frankie Horne and Phillip Snyman also scoring tries.
The Blitzboks will complete their pool fixtures against hosts USA at 10:40pm on Saturday (SA time).
