The Blitzboks thrashed Spain 33-0 in their fifth-place semi-final at the Sydney Sevens on Sunday to set up a rematch with Australia.
After losing 26-5 to England in the Cup quarter-finals, South Africa regrouped well to down Spain and book a place in the fifth-place final, where they will meet the hosts, who beat them 29-21 on day one.
REPORT: England bash Blitzboks
Playmaker Selvyn Davids and wing Siviwe Soyizwapi scored a brace each, while Dewald Human completed the rout with a fifth try.
In a stop-start first half, Davids profited from two Werner Kok offloads. His first try came after a multiple-phase attack. The second was scored after Kok forced a turnover and popped a pass off the ground to Davids, who weaved through two defenders to touch down.
Soyizwapi’s double was scored after the break as the Blitzboks continued to punch holes in Spain’s defence. And Human would go over on the stroke of full-time to compound Spain’s misery.
