The Blitzboks fought back from a half-time deficit to claim a 29-12 victory against Kenya at the Paris Sevens on Saturday.
South Africa had made light work of Wales in their opening match, while the much-adored Kenyans were also riding a wave of confidence following their surprise 19-19 draw with Australia.
And true to form, the African derby lived up to expectation in the first half, before the Blitzboks seized control of proceedings in the second stanza.
While the Springbok Sevens side scored two early unconverted tries for a 10-point lead, they didn’t have it all their own way. Kenya hit back with two tries of their own, and a conversion put Kenya 12-10 in front at half-time.
South Africa overcame their jittery first-half showing with a much-improved performance after the break. Muller du Plessis, who opened the scoring for the Blitzboks in the first half, did so again in the second to complete his brace.

With the Springbok Sevens team back in front, replacements Impi Visser and Mfundo Ndhlovu then added their names to the scorecard with tries to seal an ultimately comprehensive win.
