The Blitzboks must win their pool matches convincingly to secure an easier path to the Cape Town Sevens semi-finals.
How badly do the Blitzboks want this title? Shortly after the team claimed the 2016-17 World Rugby Sevens Series title – its first since 2008-09 – coach Neil Powell said that the result of the Cape Town tournament still rankled.
The Blitzboks went down 19-17 to England in last year’s tournament. No doubt they will be desperate to atone for that result with a big win in the final this Sunday.
They will be buzzing after their recent success in Dubai. They will come into the Cape Town leg of the series with momentum and confidence.
That said, the Blitzboks will need to work for three wins and a first-place finish in Pool A on Saturday. Anything less than three wins could see them finishing second and facing Fiji in the Cup quarter-finals.
The Blitzboks currently lead the Sevens Series log.
