The Blitzboks have been drawn in a challenging pool that includes both Fiji and the USA for this weekend’s Cape Town Sevens.
Besides having to face Fiji and the USA in the group stage, the Blitzboks will also meet Japan in their opening fixture in Cape Town.
The Springbok Sevens, who enjoyed a stunning start to the new season after winning the Dubai Sevens this past weekend, will then tackle Fiji and the USA.
The islanders are the reigning series champions, while the USA finished as runners-up last season.
Nevertheless, the Blitzboks will be full of confidence after powering past New Zealand in the Cup final in Dubai.
Reflecting on the team’s success in Dubai, Blitzboks captain Siviwe Soyizwapi said he had been left speechless.
‘I was saying to my roommate Ruhan [Nel] yesterday morning how great it would be if we won the tournament on my birthday,’ he said after the team lifted the trophy at The Sevens Stadium.
‘And now we did. Since that final whistle went, I have been almost speechless, taking in the effort the guys put out there.’
