The Blitzboks beat Argentina 40-21 in their final pool game on Saturday to set up a Cup quarter-final clash against Australia at the London Sevens.
Coming into this match, South Africa were already assured of a place in the quarter-finals, but their standing in Pool A had to be confirmed before their opponents were decided.
And they had no trouble getting the job done to progress as log leaders to the knockout stage, as they have done in all their previous eight tournaments this season.
There were impressive performances across the park from the Blitzboks, particularly from captain Siviwe Soyizwapi, who scored a brace and set up another.
A try from Kurt-Lee Arendse sandwiched in between Soyizwapi’s double saw the Blitzboks head into the break 21-7 up. They extended that advantage with two more scores from Stedman Gans and Muller du Plessis.
At 33-12, there was no way back for Argentina, but they managed to put some respectability on the scoreboard via a late brace from Franco Sabato, whose efforts both came from successful kick chases. But South Africa would have the final say when the ever-impressive Werner Kok ghosted through the Argentina defence to dot down under the sticks.
