In a new ‘blast from the past’ series, we take a look at the memorable midfield partnership formed by Jean de Villiers and Jaque Fourie at national level.
When looking at the Springboks’ leading combinations, it’s notable that De Villiers and Fourie remain far and away the most settled centre pairing that has been fielded in the international arena.
The duo, who also both previously played for the Stormers, started in 29 Tests together, with the next centre combination of De Wet Barry and Marius Joubert playing 18 matches as a combination.
Interestingly, the modern-day duo of Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel have played as a starting combination in 15 Tests, and could well overtake Barry and Joubert in years to come.
However, it’s De Villiers and Fourie who formed a standout partnership that won’t be easily replicated. Take a look at some of the highlights from their careers and then let us know in the comments section what some of your best memories of these two Bok greats are.
