Black Ferns scrumhalf Kendra Cocksedge made history on Thursday when she became the first woman to be crowned the New Zealand Player of the Year.
Cocksedge trumped All Blacks trio Richie Mo’unga, Brodie Retallick and Codie Taylor to the most prestigious award in New Zealand rugby.
She also scooped the Women’s Player of the Year award for her contribution to the Black Ferns this season, as well as Fiao’o Faamausili Medal for her role in Canterbury’s Cup success.

Mo’unga was voted Super Rugby Player of the Year and teammate Taylor the Maori Player of the Year.
Clark Laidlaw claimed the Coach of the Year prize after he led the All Black Sevens team to double gold at the Commonwealth Games and the Sevens World Cup. Scott Curry claimed the Sevens Player of the Year gong, while Michaela Blyde walked away with the Black Ferns Sevens Player award.
The Black Ferns Sevens pipped the All Blacks and All Blacks Sevens teams to the New Zealand Team of the Year prize, while the Crusaders took the National Team of the Year award.
Glen Jackson was voted as Referee of the Year, while the Try of the Year went to St Peter’s College flank Chris Hala’ufia for his effort against Napier Boys.
