France-based hooker Bismarck du Plessis says he still has aspirations to play for the Springboks again.
Du Plessis made 79 Test appearances for the Boks, the last of which came at the 2015 World Cup, before joining French club Montpellier.
The 34-year-old was initially included in new Bok coach Rassie Erasmus’ squad for the June Test series against England earlier this year. However, he had to withdraw due to an ‘injury’, even though he had played the full 80 minutes of the Top 14 final.
Du Plessis has been in outstanding form for Montpellier this season and hopes to get another Bok call-up at some stage.
‘I still have a real desire to play for the Springboks. I put my heart into playing for the national team and that remains my ambition,’ he told KweseSports.
‘I have always given everything I have for the national team and if I get the chance again, that will not change. It is definitely something I want to do and hopefully, that chance comes again.’
