The British & Irish Lions are reportedly lining up a historic first Test against Japan before their 2021 tour to South Africa.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the hosts of the 2019 World Cup are on top of a shortlist of opponents to play in what would be a lucrative fixture before their tour next year.
It would also allow Warren Gatland to test his options and would be a possible avenue to include the England internationals from Saracens, who will be playing in the English second-division next year.
The Lions will play their first match in South Africa on 3 July, a week after the Premiership final, so will be eager to ensure that they do not have a similar experience as when they toured New Zealand, when they arrived three days before their first game.
