The Hurricanes star was successful with a monstrous kick from 63m as the New Zealand side stunned the Jaguares in Estadio José Amalfitani in Buenos Aires. It was nearly a record that never stood as referee Rasta Rasivhenge was heard calling the 22-year-old back to the mark of the infringement.
The kick now stands as the longest by a Kiwi player after edging Carter’s 2006 penalty against South Africa at Loftus Versfeld. On that occasion, the All Blacks legend was seen stealing a metre or two to bring the penalty within range.
