THE MONEY MAN is putting R2,000 on the Springboks to win their opening Rugby Championship Test against Argentina in Nelspruit.
South Africa vs Argentina
Match preview
I believe the Springboks will beat Argentina – by a decent margin of 15 to 20 points – on Saturday. Most bookies have South Africa favoured to win by at least 12 and there's some value to be had in that.
It's not that the Boks are that great, it's just that Argentina are that bad. Let's remember Los Pumas lost to 27-0 to France and scraped past Italy 30-24 at home in the June Test window.
I think the mystique and romance of Argentinian rugby took a battering during this season's Super Rugby competition. For me, the Jaguares were the biggest disappointment in 2016 and Argentina's squad consists mostly of players from that team.
Even though I don't believe Allister Coetzee should not coach the Springboks, I doubt even his inexperience will matter as the talent in the team should prevail.
The Boks will win comfortably and at 9/10 I'm placing a R2,000 bet on the hosts to beat Los Pumas by 15 or more to win back R1,800 plus my stake.
Australia vs New Zealand
Match preview
Australia are probably playing the worst rugby of any of the top five Test teams at the moment and I wonder how much longer Michael Cheika can stay in charge of a team that will lose their fourth Test in a row on home soil.
The Wallabies have a success rate of less than 27% against the All Blacks and I can make no case for putting any money down on them.
I will probably just watch this Test, but you can follow some in-running advice on my Facebook page.
