THE MONEY MAN predicted he would bounce back in round eight of Vodacom Super Rugby and he did.
My banker bet on an outright Crusaders win in Durban netted me R1,100. It never looked in danger, especially after Jean Deysel had a brain implosion and was sent for an early shower. I feel for you Shark fans. Without doubt it's the worst I have ever seen them play. Just when you think it's safe to go onto the field there is another senseless attack. Where is the leadership within this team?
My bet on the Hurricanes to go into the shed at half-time with a lead of five or more points netted me a further R450.
The only bet I lost was a long shot that was paying 7/2 for the Rebels to beat the Reds by 13 or more points.
This means I have recovered to R4,970 and am still in the game to earn some cash for a charity.
I believe because of the talent migration to Europe and Japan we are seeing greater parity in Super Rugby and it's making life difficult for punters as they look to study form and predict with confidence the outcome of these fixtures. All I can advise is that you don’t bet on every game – show the patience required to pick off the games that offer better value.
It sure doesn’t get any easier this week. Here's an early look at the games and the early betting as posted by www.wsb.co.za:
Blues (+2.5) vs Brumbies (-2.5)
Crusaders (-7.5) vs Highlanders(+7.5)
Waratahs (-7.5) vs Stormers (+7.5)
Force (-3.5) vs Cheetahs(+3.5)
Lions (9/10) vs Sharks (9/10)
Bulls (-14.5) vs Reds (+14.5)
The game that sticks out for me right now is the +7.5 the Stormers have been given against the Waratahs. As we have seen, the Australian conference is weak! This is a game the bookies have priced wrong and I would not be surprised to see this game shorten. Obviously I don’t have the two team lineups yet, but I believe it’s worth R500 @ 9/10 and take the points against an overrated Tahs team.
