Daniel Hourcade has stepped down from his position as Argentina head coach 15 months before the World Cup.
The 60-year-old announced his resignation after Argentina’s second successive defeat to Wales in their two-Test series earlier this month.
The 30-12 loss against Wales in Santa Fe extended Argentina’s record to 15 defeats in their last 17 Tests.
That became 16 defeats in 18 matches following their 44-15 loss to Scotland over the weekend.
Commenting on his decision to vacate his post, Hourcade said: ‘The players aren’t responding. We had talked to the leadership and I felt that the message is not reaching the players. The responsibility is mine. The cycle is complete.’
Hourcade took over as coach in 2013 and led Argentina to the 2015 World Cup semi-finals. The UAR has not yet named his replacement.
