Prop Ofa Tu’ungafasi has received a warning for his dangerous tackle on France wing Remy Grosso during the All Blacks’ 52-11 win last Saturday.
Grosso, who scored France’s only try in the game, had to be taken to hospital after suffering a high shot from both Tu’ungafasi and flank Sam Cane, and has since been ruled out with a double head fracture.
However, much to the ire of France coach Jacques Brunel, referee Luke Pearce only awarded a penalty against Cane for the incident despite replays showing that Tu’ungafasi’s shoulder had made contact with Grosso’s head.

In an official statement, World Rugby said that the incident was ‘just short’ of a red card.
‘Having reviewed all available camera angles, the citing commissioner – South Africa’s Freek Burger – considered Tu’ungafasi to have executed a dangerous tackle just short of the red card level,’ the statement read.
Burger added that mitigating factors included Grosso’s low body position as he dipped into the tackle from Cane.
Tu’ungafasi took to social media to apologise for the incident, saying that it was unintentional.
