Coach Steve Hansen has made seven changes to his last-ever All Blacks lineup for Friday’s third-place playoff match against Wales in Tokyo.
New Zealand were eliminated from the World Cup title race following a 19-7 defeat by England in the semi-finals and will now face Wales in the bronze medal match.
Outgoing coach Steve Hansen has wielded the axe, with several senior players missing out on selection.
Ben Smith and Rieko Ioane come in as the starting wings, while Ryan Crotty and Sonny Bill Williams return to the midfield as the centre pairing.
Up front, flanks Sam Cane and Shannon Frizell have been selected to boost the loose trio. Scott Barrett retains his place in the run-on XV, but moves from the side of the scrum to No 5 at the expense of Sam Whitelock, who drops out of the match 23.
The inclusion of Dane Coles at hooker is the only change to the front row.
Liam Coltman (hooker), Atu Moli (prop), Matt Todd (flank) and Brad Weber (scrumhalf) are the new additions to the bench.
