Willem Alberts is aware that he will have a crucial role to play for the Boks in Buenos Aires on Saturday, writes CRAIG LEWIS.
Alberts will start at blindside flanker against Argentina, although he’s only likely to be deployed for a relatively short stint as he works his way back from a lengthy injury lay-off.
After last Saturday’s shock loss in Durban, coach Heyneke Meyer admitted that they had missed having a traditional ball-carrying blindside flanker at their disposal as Argentina outmuscled the Springboks in a match he described as an ‘arm-wrestle’.
The Boks are expected to have a far more tactical approach in order to avoid being caught out by the Pumas again, and Alberts' physicality and ability to dominate the gainline will be key to that.
‘We can expect the same [from Argentina], but we just have to deal with it differently,’ Alberts said. ‘We knew their style of play would be to disrupt us at the breakdown and at the set pieces.
‘For me personally, I just want to use my chance, and do my job, the same as every guy who wears the green and gold. I want to play my part and fulfil my role for the team, everybody just needs to perform their role and then the result will take care of itself.’
