Affies maul KES

Affies beat KES 38-10 in their Mutual & Federal Premier Interschools clash in Johannesburg, while Paul Roos edged Wynberg 24-22 in Stellenbosch.

The much talked-about Affies fullback Eduan Keyter put in a sterling display of running rugby and assisted in their two first-half tries, by flank Vic Meyer and Jan van der Merwe, as they headed into the break at 14-3.

Early in the second half, both teams crossed the line either side of an Eddie Fouché penalty, bringing the scores to 24-10. KES started to build momentum, but on several occasions they failed to round off their chances, albeit a result of some resolute Affies defending.

Their inability to punish Affies cost them in the final 10 minutes when Keyter turned over the ball inside their 22m, offloaded to captain Ruan Roelofse who sent centre Hanco Jordaan in under posts. With time up on the clock, Keyter found a way to get on the score sheet, sprinting down the line untouched, as Affies returned to winning ways, after their loss to Grey College last week.

On the back of a stunning victory against Paarl Gym, Paul Roos overcame a determined Wynberg outfit, handing them only their second loss of the year.

In other results, Paarl Boys downed Boland Landbou 18-14, EG Jansen stunned Kempton Park 33-27, Grey College continued their unbeaten run with a 34-16 thrashing of Selborne and Garsfontein beat Waterkloof 44-19.
