Johan Ackermann's contract as head coach of the Lions' Super Rugby and Currie Cup sides has been extended until the end of October 2016.

Since getting the job, Ackermann has led the Lions to victory in the 2013 Vodacom Cup, gained readmission into Super Rugby and reached the semi-finals of the 2013 Currie Cup. He has also enjoyed a successful 2014 season so far, with the Lions winning seven matches in Super Rugby and set to host a Currie Cup semi-final.

'Johan possesses great coaching ability and he is a man of strong character and perseverance,' said Lions CEO Rudolf Straeuli. 'We are proud of the work Johan has done with the team over the past two seasons and we are looking forward to him leading us to many future victories.'
