Krugersdorp-based high school Monument have announced that they will be hosting a world rugby festival as part of their centenary celebrations in 2021.
Next year’s festival will form part of the highlights of the school’s 100 year celebrations and will take place between 23 March and 5 April. All games will be broadcast live on several platforms by SchoolSportsLive.
The major attraction of the festival will feature 10 of the top rugby 1st XV teams from South Africa facing 10 top rugby schools from around the world. The participants will be confirmed at a later stage. Games will be played on Thursday 01 April 2021, Saturday 03 April and Monday 05 April 2021 with the teams to play two games each.
There will also be an U13 festival with some of the top u/13 teams from South Africa to be invited will be played on Tuesday 30 March 2021, Wednesday 31 March 2021 and Thursday 01 April 2020. The two top teams will be playing in the final as the main curtain-raiser for the 1stXV festival’s main game on Thursday.
All profits from the festival will be re-invested into South African schoolboy rugby, while the festival will also aim to support local businesses that have suffered financial hardships during the Covid-19 pandemic.
