Former Wallabies fullback Israel Folau will return to competitive sport after signing a one-year contract with Super League club the Catalans Dragons.
Back in December, Folau finally settled his legal dispute with Rugby Australia after a drawn-out dispute related to controversial social media posts in April, which stated homosexuals and other ‘sinners’ were destined for hell unless they repented their sins.
The 30-year-old claimed that he was unlawfully sacked because of his religion by Rugby Australia.
However, he has now found his way back into a sporting arena.
‘Catalans Dragons are pleased to announce the signing of Israel Folau with immediate effect,’ the Perpignan-based club said in a statement as they announced his return to rugby league for the first time since 2010.
Meanwhile, Folau stated: ‘I’m a proud Christian, my beliefs are personal, my intention is not to hurt anyone and I will not be making further public comment about them. I look forward to my return to the great game of Rugby League with the Catalans Dragons.’
