Bok quartet added to BaaBaas squad

Published on November 5, 2019

Makazole Mapimpi and Tendai Mtawarira are among the four Springboks to be added to the Barbarians squad for their November internationals.

The duo are joined by Bok teammates Lukhanyo Am and Herschel Jantjies in the squad that will take on Fiji, Brazil and Wales as part of the invitational side’s tour.

Jantjies, Am and Mapimpi will all be making their first appearances for the Barbarians, but Mtawarira is set for his third show in the black-and-white jersey.

The four are the latest names to be added to the squad, which already includes Rory Best, who will retire from Test rugby after the tour, and France centre Mathieu Bastareaud. Former Springbok flyhalf Morne Steyn is also in the squad and will link up with Mtawarira, with the duo having last played a Barbarians match together in 2009.

The team will be coached by Eddie Jones for their opening fixture against Fiji at Twickenham on 16 November. Jones’ England side lost to the Springboks in the World Cup final last weekend.

The Barbarians will then face Brazil in Sao Paulo on 20 November and then take on World Cup semi-finalists Wales in Cardiff on 30 November.
