Wilhelm van der Sluys will make his first start for the Lions in their Currie Cup match against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Friday.
Van der Sluys steps into the second row for Marvin Orie, who is away with the Springbok camp in Wellington.
It will be the experienced 27-year-old’s first Currie Cup start for the Lions since joining the side from the Exeter Chiefs this year.
Van der Sluys’ place on the bench is taken by youngster Reinhard Nothnagel, while hooker Jan-Henning Campher has also been recalled on to the bench.
The rest of the match-day squad remains unchanged from the one that came back to beat Western Province 30-28 at Newlands last weekend.
