A round-up of what some of South Africa’s leading Sunday papers are saying, including a look at Herschel Jantjies’ heroics in the draw in Wellington.

The backpage in Rapport looks at the 16-16 draw between the Springboks and All Blacks on Saturday, where Jantjies scored a 79th minute try to allow the Boks to come away with a stalemate. Under the headline, ‘Hie’ kommie Bokke’, writer Hendrik Cronje compares the match to the Boks’ 36-34 win in 2018.

In the player ratings from the draw, Cronje gave top marks to Jantjies and Bok flank Pieter-Steph du Toit, awarding them both a 9/10. Tighthead prop Frans Malherbe and fullback Willie le Roux were both given 6/10, the lowest of the matchday 23.

Meanwhile, there is an update on Aphiwe Dyantyi, who has missed both of the opening fixtures of the Rugby Championship. According to Cronje, Dyantyi will miss the Boks’ next match against Argentina in Salta on 10 August, but there is hope he will recover in time for the World Cup.

In the Sunday Times, Vodacom Bulls scrum coach Daan Human has spoken about adapting to life in Pretoria and the progress of Bok props Lizo Gqoboka and Trevor Nyakane. In an interview with Liam del Carme, Human praised both Gqoboka and Nyakane. ‘Both made progress in the scrum,’ Human said. ‘They are top people to work with.’
