Soiyzwapi: No excuses for Blitzboks

Siviwe Soyizwapi beats the Zimbabwe defence Soiyzwapi: No excuses for Blitzboks

Siviwe Soyizwapi believes the Blitzboks have enough quality to be successful at the Hamilton Sevens this weekend.

The Blitzboks will take on Scotland, France and Kenya in the pool stage of the New Zealand leg of the series and are likely to face either England or the USA in the quarter-finals.

Soiyzwapi, who missed the inaugural tournament in Hamilton last year due to a knee injury, says South Africa have no excuse but to perform from the outset.

‘Travelling through a couple of time zones makes it different and more challenging for us as a team, but it’s a no-excuses tour us,’ he said. ‘It doesn’t matter if you didn’t sleep or your body tells you that it’s night time in South Africa even though it’s daytime in New Zealand, you don’t have an excuse, you still have to do your best for the team.’

The speedster added that the Blitzboks’ philosophy and processes should remain the axis for their pursuit to be the best they can be on this tour of Australasia.

‘We need to stick to the standards we set for ourselves in the past. That made us successful before, so that should be part of our mindset and journey,’ Soyizwapi explained.

‘We have a number of new combinations here and it will be important for those to find each other early. We also have a number of guys coming back from injury, but we have managed to overcome that in the past. We trained well together in Stellenbosch, so we should be good to go once we to take to the field.’
