Earl Rose handed himself over to police on Saturday and has briefly appeared in court after being accused of stealing golf clubs in Stellenbosch last week.
According to Netwerk24, the case was postponed until 18 February for further investigation.
Surveillance footage showed Rose, who played two tour matches for the Springboks, and an unidentified woman leave through the front door of the Stellenbosch Golf Club at around lunchtime on Wednesday.
They were allegedly carrying clubs belonging to golfer Grant Gainsford and his friend Louis Swanepoel.
Gainsford, a rugby fan, said he recognised the man who he believes stole his R7,000 golf club.
At first, Gainsford and Swanepoel thought they were being pranked, but reported the incident to the golf club when they believed they had been robbed.
Rose reportedly returned the clubs on Thursday, claiming they were ‘lost and found’.
