Boks to face Japan in World Cup warm-up

The Springboks will play a Test against Japan in Japan on Friday 6 September 2019 as part of their World Cup preparations.

According to Rapport newspaper, the fixture was confirmed by SA Rugby earlier this week.

The Boks will stay in Japan after the match to prepare for their first pool match against the All Blacks in Yokohama on 21 September.

The two teams have only met once before, at the 2015 World Cup when Japan shocked the Boks 34-32 in Brighton.

Springboks’ 2019 Tests:

Rugby Championship
20 July – vs Australia, Ellis Park, Johannesburg
27 July – vs New Zealand, Westpac Stadium, Wellington
10 August – vs Argentina, venue TBC

Test match (not part of Rugby Championship)
17 August: vs Argentina, Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria

Test match (World Cup warm-up)
6 September: vs Japan, venue TBC

World Cup
21 September – vs New Zealand, International Stadium Yokohama (11:45am SA time)
28 September – vs Namibia, City of Toyota Stadium (11:45am SA time)
4 October – vs Italy, Shizuoka Stadium (11:45am SA time)
8 October – vs Canada, Kobe Misaki Stadium (12:15am SA time)
