The Glasgow Warriors beat the Scarlets 29-20, while there were also Pro14 wins for Munster, the Ospreys, Ulster, Connacht, Leinster and Treviso.
In a tight encounter at Scotstoun Stadium, flyhalf Brandon Thomson put in a magnificent solo performance, scoring 24 points to propel the Warriors to a win over the high-flying Scarlets. The victory was all the more impressive as Glasgow lost Alex Allan to a red card for a dangerous tackle and had to play the remaining hour of the match with 14 men.
Despite losing Allan early on, the Warriors reacted positively, with Thomson slotting a couple of penalties to give them a 6-3 lead. The Trichardt-born playmaker then reached over after some patient play from the hosts and converted his own try to give them a 13-3 half-time lead.
Incredibly, Glasgow continued scoring after the break as Nick Grigg ran a perfect line onto a chip over the defence to score the home side’s second, with Thomson adding another conversion to take his personal tally to 15. The visitors hit back through a late flurry of tries from Jonathan Davies, Steff Evans and Clayton Blommetjies, but three second-half penalties from Thomson were enough to see the Warriors home.
Meanwhile, a hat-trick from wing Kieth Earls saw Munster cruise to a 44-14 win over Edinburgh on Friday night. Johann van Graan’s side was also boosted by braces from Andrew Conway and Chris Farrell to go along with a try from Tyler Bleyendaal. Edinburgh wing Duhan van der Merwe managed two solo tries for the visitors in response.
In other results, Luke Morgan scored three tries to help the Ospreys claim a comfortable 43-0 victory against Zebre, Ulster beat the Cardiff Blues 16-12 thanks to three penalties from scrumhalf John Cooney, defending champions Leinster scored 50 points for the second game running as they beat the Dragons 59-10, while Connacht and Treviso ended their South African tours on a high with narrow victories over the Cheetahs and Kings respectively.
