Mostert in for Gloucester debut

Franco Mostert is set to make his Gloucester debut after being a shock inclusion on the bench for their Premiership match against the Worcester Warriors.

The Springbok lock has been caught in the middle of a contractual dispute between Gloucester and his former franchise, the Lions, who complained to World Rugby about ‘irregular player movement’.

Gloucester coach Johan Ackermann said this week that he was waiting for the green light from the game’s governing body to give Mostert his first cap, after he linked up with the squad following the end of his Test duties.

However, the saga finally seems to have been resolved as Mostert is in the match-day squad for Saturday’s local derby against the Warriors.

The 28-year-old joins starting flank Jaco Kriel and replacement hooker Jaco Visagie as the South Africans in the squad.
