Centre Jan Serfontein could miss the Springboks’ four Tests in June.
Serfontein was ruled out of Montpellier’s Top 14 clash against Pau this weekend due to a mysterious and rare outgrowth on his thigh, according to Rapport newspaper.
He is currently getting medical advice on whether he needs to undergo surgery or radiation to have the outgrowth removed.
The condition could keep Serfontein sidelined for up to six weeks until 10 June, depending on which form of treatment he decides to have.
South Africa take on Wales in a one-off Test in Washington DC on 2 June, before playing against England on 9, 16 and 23 June.
