Scotland assistant coach Matt Taylor says they know what to expect and how to prepare for Saturday’s Test against the Springboks in Edinburgh.
Scotland will head into the match at Murrayfield high in confidence following their emphatic 54-17 win over Fiji. By contrast, South Africa edged France 29-26 thanks to Bongi Mbonambi’s last-gasp try.
Despite the result, the Springboks’ overall performance wasn’t of a high standard. Taylor, however, believes that Rassie Erasmus’ team deserve credit for staying in the contest and fighting to the end.
‘It was an exciting game. I wouldn’t have liked to have been French, but fair dues to South Africa for keeping on playing and doing well,’ he told The Scotsman.
Taylor believes the Boks’ late surge in Paris should be seen as a clear indication of what to expect on Saturday.
‘I think you kind of know what’s coming to a certain degree with South Africa and it’s all about being physical and confrontational and stopping them playing.
‘If you do that, you’ve got an opportunity to do well and if you don’t, you’re going backwards at a rate of knots. We’ll be looking to get up with their linespeed and double contact them.’
