‘England will know more about us’

John Mitchell England defence coach John Mitchell

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus expects John Mitchell to give England important knowledge about the South African players ahead of their clash on Saturday.

Mitchell recently joined England as their defence coach, under head coach Eddie Jones, after spending just one season with the Bulls.

Saturday’s match at Twickenham is set to give England an opportunity to test their new coaching setup as well as to bounce back from their 2-1 series defeat to the Boks in June. Erasmus says the former All Blacks coach could have a telling impact.

‘It’s going to be interesting to see them adapt with new coaches in the mix. From their side, they have to settle pretty quickly. I know they have been in camp for two weeks, but it is difficult to change a lot if you don’t have matches.

‘But then Eddie is clever and Mitch is clever.  We’ve got some things we think they are going to throw at us, which we think will be tactically different. They will definitely defend differently with Mitch being their defensive coach.

‘They will know more about us with Mitch knowing every single South African player, having analysed the Currie Cup and Super Rugby. It’s going to be spicy.’
