Reds lock Lukhan Tui has been suspended for three weeks for a dangerous tackle on Rebels scrumhalf Will Genia.
Immediately after Tui lifted and dumped Genia – head first – into the ground, he was sanctioned with a yellow card and later cited.
The lock pleaded guilty to the dangerous tackle charge and will be out of action until 17 March.
‘With respect to sanction, the review committee deemed the act of foul play merited a low-end entry point of six weeks due to an absence of intention and other contributing factors,’ panel chairman Michael Heron said.
‘However, taking into account mitigating factors, including the player’s excellent disciplinary record and his guilty plea at the earliest possible opportunity, the foul play review committee reduced the suspension to three weeks.’
On Monday, Reds captain Scott Higginbotham was banned for three weeks for a similar offence in the same game.
