Sharks coach Robert du Preez has named two separate teams to play in their Super Rugby warm-up match against the Bulls in Polokwane on Saturday.
Du Preez selected a first-half team (captained by Ruan Botha) and a second-half team (captained by Franco Marais) in order to test the various combinations in the squad.
The side which will play first sees Lwazi Mvovo start at fullback, Curwin Bosch at flyhall and Thomas du Toit at tighthead.
New recruits including wing Makazole Mapimpi, No 10 Rob du Preez and lock Gideon Koegelenberg, have all been selected to start in the second-half squad.
Chiliboy Ralepelle and Khuta Mchunu have been named as the two extra players, to be used as substitutes.
‘I’m not too concerned about the results of the warm-up games, but I want to gauge how far we are in terms of our conditioning levels,’ said Du Preez.
‘The young players have trained hard and won’t look out of place in Super Rugby. This poses a few selection headaches for the coach, but welcome ones.
‘Our success is dependent on how well we utilise our squad. Potentially 38 players will be involved in Super Rugby so there are opportunities for everyone.’
